Have you ever wondered what the net worth of Scott Cawthon is? Well, the former video game developer and writer is worth a fortune. Famously known for creating Five Nights at Freddy’s media franchise.

Early Life

Cawthon was born June 4, 1978, in Houston, Texas. At 13, his mother purchased a gaming program called Klik & Play, and he fell in love.

It was around this time that Cawthon knew that he wanted to be involved in the realm of game creation.

Cawthon attended the Art Institute of Houston and wanted to find work in game design. Like many people coming out of college, he did not have anything solidified and would work at Family Dollars and Target’s to make ends meet.

The slow start didn’t stop the passion Cawthon had within, and he would persevere and become one of the best video game designers of our time.

Career

Cawthon began game designing and working with animations in the 1990s. His first official game was RPG Max, released in 2002.

Cawthon is a devout Christian, and after releasing RPG Max, he worked with Hope Animation to create designs based on Christian values. He would also make an eight-part series titled The Pilgrim’s Progress, retelling Christian preacher John Bunyan’s novel.

He enjoyed creating animations based on Christian values and beliefs but would branch out into mainstream video game creation.

After releasing The Pilgrim’s Progress, he developed several games, including Sit N’ Survive, Chipper and Sons Lumber Co, and The Desolate Hope.

Some were submitted to Steam Greenlight, one of the largest digital distribution platforms for PC gaming. However, none saw huge success or brought Cawthon the necessary notoriety to put him on the map.

This would change in 2014 when he submitted Five Nights at Freddy’s to Steams Greenlight Systems. The game would gain massive popularity and be accepted by Streams.

Five Nights at Freddy’s was released for $4.99 and received well by critics. It is a survival horror game where players must defend themselves from evil animatronic characters throughout the game.

The game was a huge success, nicely coupling being both challenging and highly terrifying. Cawthon would release ten installments of the series, all having great success.

In 2021, Cawthon decided to step away from the game-developing world. Since it was very time-consuming, he wanted to offer that time to his children.

However, he hopes to appoint a successor to ensure Five Nights at Freddy’s lives forever.
