Early Life

Rakeem Hashim Allen, better known as PnB Rock, was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on December 9, 1991.

His father was unfortunately murdered when he was only three years old. From then on, he primarily lived with his mother.

This placed a huge financial burden on his mother, who now had to raise PnB Rock and his four other siblings.

PnB Rock has stated in interviews before that the family constantly moved in and out of shelters.

By the age of thirteen, PnB Rock had gotten into several altercations and problems with the law. Consequently, he was sent to a youth detention program.

This was due to both consistent fights and robberies throughout middle and high school.

Surprisingly, PnB Rock wasn’t even remotely interested in the rap scene then. Without any clear direction or purpose, PnB Rock felt lost at such an early age.

Things quickly took an even sourer turn when his uncle-father figure was murdered at the age of 15. As a result of this, PnB Rock completely lost control and hit the streets on the run.

Just over a year later, he’d end up in county jail for drug possession and other crimes. Ironically, this is where PnB Rock began writing his musical hits.

His earliest songs spoke about the struggles he faced on the streets.

Once released from the county jail, PnB Rock put the songs he had written during his time there to use.

He coined the term “PnB” to pay homage to the streets he grew up on, Pastorius and Baynton Streets.

The label took great interest in the rising artist and signed him to a multi-year contract.

Under his new record label, PnB Rock released his debut studio album, “GTTM: Goin Thru the Motions.”

The album quickly picked up steam and debuted at number 28 on the Billboard Top 100.
