LinkedIn has five tiers to profile strength: Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced, Expert, All Star. It is important to hit that All Star level as quick as possible. Luckily, LinkedIn makes this very straightforward.
When you first open up your LinkedIn profile it’ll show you your profile section. It will look something similar to this.
As you can see, they have a profile section which has topics in it such as Intro, About, Featured, and so on. Click into each of these sections and update all the material they ask for.
This is your chance to brag about yourself. Put down all the skills, awards, and companies you have worked for. The more information here the better. When someone comes and looks at your profile, you want to give them as much information as you can. That way they can better make a decision if they want to work with you or not.
Optimize Your LinkedIn Summary For Desired Key Words
Many people go wrong in creating their LinkedIn summary. The summary is what shows right under your “About” section on LinkedIn. Many people just have a sentence like, “hard-working professional looking for a marketing job.” Ask yourself, “Would you want to hire this person?” Probably not.
Your LinkedIn summary is going to help you stand out among the crowd. What exactly about you is hard working? In your bio, provide examples of projects you have worked on, contributed to, or spearheaded. What achievements are certifications do you have? What type of marketing job would you prefer? Do you do email marketing, SEO, content marketing, digital marketing?
The more specific you are with your summary, the easier it is for someone to find you. Look what happens when I type in LinkedIn “make the world a better place.”
The first result I get is someone who in their headline has “make the world a better place.” The second result is someone who has “make the world a better place” in their headline and in their job description. LinkedIn will show you everybody who has “make the world a better place” anywhere in their profile.
If you are a content marketer, you should have content marketer in your headline, as your current job, and in your summary. This means when someone searches for “Content marketer” you’re optimizing your odds of being found.
Although your profile doesn’t directly impact your post engagement, without a strong profile people are less likely to engage with you. Since your LinkedIn profile is something you can easily control, it is paramount that you do it right.
LinkedIn is what I like to call a discovery platform. What that means is that LinkedIn will show your content to the people most likely to engage with it. Instagram and TikTok work in the same manner. For example, If they see that Dave constantly watches cat videos, and Ryan posts a video of his cat, they will show Dave that video even if he doesn’t follow Ryan.
This is different than other platforms like Snapchat. Snapchat is more of a branding platform. If you post a video on Snapchat about cats, Snapchat won’t show that video to other people who like cats. You use Snapchat more for cultivating a brand image with your current followers.
Since LinkedIn is a discovery platform, you want to maximize your odds of being discovered. That is why you should be posting at least two times a week but no more than fives times a week according to HubSpot. HubSpot found that anything over five times a week leads to a serious drop in engagement.
When To Post
Remember, LinkedIn is primarily used by business professionals. This means that all of our post should go out during the work day on weekdays. Don’t publish to LinkedIn on the weekends as most users won’t be on the platform then.
Some of the best times to post are between 8 and 10 a.m. and 1 to 2 p.m. LinkedIn is one of the platforms people check right when they get into the office, or right after lunch. So try to schedule your posts around those times.

You want your LinkedIn content to do one of those four things. Always think to yourself, “What emotion am I getting out of someone by posting this?” If the answer is none, then you can be pretty sure that it won’t do too well.

The best way to expand your network is to connect with people in your same niche. If you work in finance, you should connect with other people in finance. LinkedIn makes this very easy.
While you can connect with almost anyone on the platform, LinkedIn does have some rules. You cannot match with more than 30,000 people. You can only connect with 3 to 5% of your total LinkedIn connections a day. You’re only allowed to search for a limited amount of profiles and pages a month.
Having 30,000 connections is more than enough. Most LinkedIn users will never even come close to that. Being able to connect with only 3 to 5% of your total LinkedIn connections a day does hurt your growth when you first start your LinkedIn account. However, once you get around 1000 connections, this stops being an issue. The only thing you have to worry about is their limit on the number of profiles and pages you can visit a month.
