Betcha: A New Way To Play – Jason Shapiro

Move over, casinos. There’s a new Sheriff in town.

For our eleventh interview of The Success Bug Podcast, we welcomed Jason Shapiro, Chief Revenue Officer of Betcha. Betcha is a brand new daily fantasy sports app dedicated to making social gaming simple for the casual fan.

Why You Should Know Jason Shapiro and Betcha

As a young business professional, Jason found himself continually taking advantage of every networking opportunity he could. Having worked in the sports gaming industry for multiple years before joining Betcha, he gained a deep understanding of it. But rather than taking the traditional route, Jason used his knowledge of the industry and superior networking skills to pitch his ideas to the Betcha team.

Betcha

What happened after Jason joined was simply exceptional. After closing a $2 million seed round led by Sinai Ventures and Muse Capital, Betcha is looking to take over the industry by leapfrogging traditional sports betting apps like FanDuel and DraftKings. As CRO, Jason oversees product and marketing strategy, fundraising, partnerships, odds/projections, and more.

However, don’t get us wrong. Betcha is more than just your traditional sports gaming app. Having drawn inspiration from smash-hit companies like Robinhood and Peloton, the app is on a mission to simplify gaming. Peloton, for example, enables people with common interests to unlock rideshare badges or vie for leaderboard spots to promote accountability.

Betcha takes this a step further by hosting challenges between different fanbases. For example, New York Jets fans can compete with one another for the chance to unlock prizes, merchandise, and event tickets. With a fully socially interactive and sleek platform, users are able to not only place bets but interact with each other while doing it.

Now, Betcha has its sights set on turning the sports gaming world on its head. But don’t take my word for it. Listen to our exclusive interview with Jason Shapiro of Betcha below.

Notable Quotes

“[Building Betcha] was really all about a willingness to reach out to people who are experts in certain areas and asking for help. People really want to help. And they respect people who are hustling and grinding to create a vision.”

“A lot of people think they have a specific solution to a problem. But they don’t think 12-24 months ahead.”

“We’ve always known what [Betcha] would look like in 2-3 years. Being able to develop that vision and then articulate it clearly is super important for the fundraising process and getting people to believe in what you’re building.

“If you can create comparisons to companies that people are familiar with, that helps break down an idea that might not be easy to understand.”

“Don’t worry about risk, because the reward will be so much greater. And don’t think of the reward like, ‘This is a successful company and we’re selling it for $200 million.’ The reward is the process. Because even if that fails, it sets you up for your next [business].”
