This week, our team studied a simple practice that celebrities such as Steve Harvey, Oprah Winfrey and Jack Canfield (author of Chicken Soup for the Soul) attribute largely to their success. That practice is “The Secret,” or more specifically, The Law of Attraction.
THE LAW OF ATTRACTION
The law of attraction is derived from the documentary, “The Secret,” produced in 2006 (Streamable now on Netflix) followed by the book written by Rhonda Byrne. In an interview, Steve Harvey declared that The Secret is the most powerful book he has ever read outside of the Bible.
SO, WHAT’S IT ALL ABOUT?
Quite simply, the law of attraction means that, “Like attracts like.” You ATTRACT the energy that you give off. If you are a pessimistic, negative person, more negativity will manifest in your life. If you are a cheerful, optimistic person, more positivity will manifest in your life.
The Secret is that simple.
So, why don’t more of us do that? Well, it’s not easy. We all hit roadblocks in our lives. We make mistakes, we lose loved ones…. We receive bad news. The trick is knowing where to invest our thoughts.
THE 5 MINUTE RULE
Next time you receive some bad news, realize that it is okay to be upset about it. Give yourself some time to vent these frustrations, but no more than five minutes. After five minutes, stop what you are doing, take out a pen and paper (Yes, a PEN and PAPER. Put the cellphone down) and write down five things in your life you have to be thankful for. Then, follow this up by writing five personal goals that you would like to see manifested in your life within the next year. Our team has started practicing this every night to ensure we are being surrounded by positive thoughts. Try using a five minute journal and keeping it by your bed side so that you never forget to fill it out. This may seem silly, but by doing this you are visualizing your thoughts, and as Steve Harvey put it so well,
“If you can see it in your mind, you can hold it in your hand.”
If you want something even bigger, go out and buy yourself a bulletin board. This will serve as your “Dreamboard.” Before accomplishing your dreams, you need to be able to visualize them first. Write down that car you want, hell, even print out a picture of it and attach it to your board. If you are putting your goals out there and visualizing them daily, they will begin to manifest in your life.
I know what you are all thinking. “This is crazy, a Dodge Charger isn’t going to just appear in my driveway tomorrow.” No, no it will not; that is also not the point. The real goal is to have a vision. From there, the road will appear.
- The Law of Attraction is the idea that you attract the energy you give off
- “If you can see it in your mind, you can hold it in your hand” –Steve Harvey
- Start visualizing your goals by buying a bulletin board (Dreamboard) and pasting them on it
- The 5 minute rule: when a problem arises, try to invest just 5 minutes of your time/energy. After five minutes, with a pen and paper, write down 5 of your goals/things you are thankful for. This will help your mind focus on the positive aspects of your life and help manifest more of them.
